RE-MEMBER
For the concept of the final show, I created a space which could let the audience feel and remember original childhood drea msand aspirations, which through life mutate and change. I do not intend to say that they should stop what they are doing and go back but rather to remember these dreams as a balancing act between dreams and reality and to remember how these can fade away without notice.
The aim of this project is to remind the audience that they might have forgotten childhood memories. As time passes and the pressures of life increase as we grow older, we tend to forget these original desires and ambitions. The title of this project is Chor Sum(初心) “Re-member”: remembering original childhood dreams and aspirations, which through life mutate and change. I do not intend to say that they should stop what they are doing and go back but rather to remember these dreams as a balancing act between dreams and reality and to remember how these can fade away without notice.
I created a clock composed of 12 small bowls and 12 pairs chopsticks. I chose to produce bowls and chopsticks as these objects have been part of my life since childhood and I continue to use as them a adult. They represent the passing of time, the constant and invisible eroding effect of time. The bowl and chopsticks are well suited as these are also objects by many people around the worId. The materials of the small bowls are 3d printed polyester, and chopsticks are MDF. I want to use new materials to also represent the passing of time and the effect it has on material practices as a remix.
The Daisy Flower symbolizes childbirth, motherhood, and new beginnings. From my perspective, it also represents my grandma, because she likes them very much and I remember when I was little, she always brought me to the flower market to buy daisy flowers. I remember that the reason she likes and chooses daisies is because she feels it is very clean, makes her happy and also reminds her of being a little girl. Although now she got Dementia, every time she sees daisies it builds a connection with her past and she talks about her childhood.
Therefore, this project is a composite of objects that trigger my childhood memories and my grandmothers’ memories as well. I would like to through this project let the audience to feel synchronicity with my project and trigger them to think and question their childhood dreams.
